The Undie Hundy - Fundraiser for Men’s and Ladies D Grade Superchamps

We have an epic doubles and games night fundraiser on Friday 18th August for the Men’s and Ladies D Grade teams to help them get to (and eat, and stay somewhere...) in Hastings for the Super champs in September. It will be heaps of fun, with heaps of laughs, and heaps of prizes. Please get into it - the teams need your support.

Bit of a back story for the teams.

In September, Taupo Squash players will be representing Te Moana a Toi, the Bay of Plenty (BOP) at the National Super Champ finals. Reaching this stage is the result of a lot of hard mahi, dedication to training, and enthusiasm. The teams are absolutely stoked to be representing our club, Taupo and BOP District.

The district champion is then eligible to travel to the National Super Champs finals to play off for the national title, representing their club and district.

In 2022 the Taupo Squash D-Grade men's team won the right to represent the BOP District at the National Super Champs held that year in Ngamotu (New Plymouth); almost upsetting the top seeds in the first round and ultimately finishing in third place.

This year Taupo Squash is again represented at the D-grade level, but this year with both a men's and a women's team getting to Nationals. Consisting of seven players, a team coach and manager, teams came together in April for the first training sessions with eyes on the regional BOP eliminations tournament recently held in July.

Preparation for the eliminations consisted of team trainings, regional tournaments, local matchups, internal ladder challenges and cross team tournaments. The teams and players were ready and ultimately proved successful in navigating their way through the play offs and took out their elimination tournaments, winning their right to represent the BOP District at the National Super Champ Finals, held this year between 13 - 16 September in

the Te Matau-a-Maui (Hawkes Bay).

The count down is on and teams are back into full training, revitalised by their wins, players are pushing each other to improve and hone their skills further in preparation to do our best for ourselves, each other and to represent Taupo on the national stage!
